Brian Lutz and Thom Rutledge recently encountered critical challenges in their marriages that tested their capacity for acceptance. Acceptance of their partners’ medical outcomes as well as their own messiness and shortcomings. Running towards, rather than away from their most uncomfortable feelings has helped them locate their emotional center of gravity inside themselves, rather than the shifting material conditions of their lives.
